Manawa Tumanako – Heart of Hope Group Programme for Māmā

A warm space to learn practical wellbeing tools, feel understood, and connect

A small group support programme in Palmerston North for māmā, pregnant people, and birth parents from pregnancy through early parenting (up to 5 years). Non-clinical support focused on practical skills and connection for mild–moderate mood or wellbeing challenges.​

What you'll gain

  • Practical wellbeing tools

  • Calmer routines, stronger coping skills

  • Connection with parents who "get it"

What to expect

  • A small, caring group

  • Facilitators who listen and guide

  • Real-world strategies, space to be heard

Strong Start Whānau Programme

Practical support for pregnancy and early parenthood, close to home

A free six-week evening programme for parents who are pregnant or have tamariki aged five years and under. Running as a 12-month pilot from August 2026 across four rural locations - Tararua, Horowhenua, Northern and Southern Manawatū - the programme offers practical tools, information, and support as whānau navigate the changes and challenges of pregnancy and early parenthood.

What you'll gain

  • Practical tools for pregnancy and early parenting

  • Confidence to navigate change

  • Connection with other whānau nearby

What to expect

  • Weekly evening sessions for six weeks

  • Both parents welcome, or a support person

  • Childcare available for tamariki up to 10

Pēpi are welcome to stay with their parent throughout the programme.

Moderate-Severe Perinatal Distress

Māmā is contacted by our clinical coordinator for a welcome, service explanation, screening and booking with our clinical psychologist

Māmā (and support person) meet with the clinical psychologist for a 90-minute appointment for full assessment and to co-design a plan of care

Māmā commences one-on-one talk therapy with the Hope Collective provider of her choosing
